James Horton, MPH, MD
Program Director - Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr.
Horton earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School,
Houston, as well as a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Texas
School of Public Health at Houston. He is certified by the American Board of
Family Medicine. With a passion for teaching residents, Dr. Horton serves on
the faculty as the director of the Mercy Health System Family Medicine Residency
Program. Complimented as genuinely caring for his patients, he teaches residents
to connect and counsel well with patients, as well to become highly competent
physicians. In his spare time, he enjoys photography and mission work.
Rex Kolste, MD, FAAFP
Associate Director - Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr.
Kolste earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center
in Omaha and completed his family practice residency at Wesley Medical Center
in Wichita, Kansas. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice
and is a certified instructor for Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics. In 2003
the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians named him Family Medicine Educator
Of The Year.
Dr. Kolste’s practice interests include the entire scope of primary care. He is considered the clinic’s procedure guru. His interests outside of medicine include farming, arboriculture and woodworking. He practiced in Colby, Kansas before joining the Mercy faculty in 1994.
Arthur Altbuch, MD, FAAFP
Director - Sports Medicine Fellowship Program
Dr.
Altbuch earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, New
York and completed his family practice residency at Bayfront Medical Center
in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is certified by the American Board of Family
Practice and holds certificates of added qualification in geriatrics and sports
medicine.
Dr. Altbuch practiced family medicine and gerontology in Florida and served on a residency faculty in Tallahassee, Florida before joining the Mercy faculty in 2000. In his spare time Dr. Altbuch enjoys antique clock repair and marathon running.
Steve Bartz, MD, FAAFP, RPh
Dr.
Bartz earned his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship
at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is certified by the
American Board of Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification
in geriatric medicine. Dr. Bartz is also a registered pharmacist. Prior to
joining Mercy, Dr. Bartz was an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the
University of Cincinnati for 6 years.
Dr. Bartz is especially interested in inpatient medicine, geriatrics, and medicolegal aspects of medicine. His hobbies include Boy Scouting and he is a Master Gardener.
Gerry Greenfield, PhD (Psychologist)
Dr.
Greenfield was born and raised in New York City. He received his BA from Princeton
University, and his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Colorado,
Boulder, in 1988. He subsequently worked part time for nine years for the Wisconsin
Department of Corrections, where he did his PhD internship. Dr. Greenfield
has also maintained a private practice in and around Madison since 1989, using
an eclectic therapeutic approach with individuals and couples with a wide range
of presenting problems. He joined the Mercy Health System Family Medicine Residency
Program faculty in January 2003. He is credentialed by the National Register
of Health Service Providers in Psychology and holds a Certificate of Professional
Qualification in Psychology from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology
Boards. Dr. Greenfield is an avid road bicyclist and skier (cross-country,
and downhill when he can get to the Rockies), occasional scuba diver, beach
and travel lover, sometime sports fan, and full-time husband and step-dad.
William Winkler, MD, FAAFP
Dr.
Winkler earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine
and completed a family practice residency at. St. John’s Mercy Medical
Center in St. Louis. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice
and is a certified instructor for Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics, which
he taught in Kyrgyzstan in October, 2003.
Dr. Winkler’s practice interests include maternal and child care, appropriate use of antibiotics, medical computing and medical ethics. His interests outside of medicine include birding, woodworking, cooking and computer graphics. He practiced in the St. Louis area for 18 years and served on the faculty of the University of Texas family medicine residency in Conroe, Texas prior to joining Mercy Health System in October, 2000
